Never Apart:
Frames and Pictures by the Brücke Artits
16.11.2019–15.03.2020

They are often overlooked and yet so important! The exhibition Never Apart is the first to look at the role and meaning of frames for the Brücke artists. Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Emil Nolde, Max Pechstein and Otto Mueller designed frames especially for their paintings. In interactive exhibition talks we are not only interested in the frames, but above all in the interplay between the painting and the frame: How did the Brücke artists choose their frames? What ornaments and colour designs can be found on them? How do frame and painting complement each other formally? And what special characteristics result from this for Expressionism? The students inquire creatively about the framework conditions of Brücke art.
