Accessibility
Preamble
The digital accessibility declaration is required by the Berlin Accessible Information and Communication Technology Act (BIKTG Bln). The technical requirements for accessibility result from the BITV 2.0. This declaration on digital accessibility applies to the offer www.museumsdienst.berlin.
When was the accessibility statement created?
This declaration was created on August 29, 2024, and reviewed for accuracy on September 11, 2025. The basis for compliance with the requirements of EN 301 549 V3.2.1 is an accessibility test of a representative selection of pages of the website in accordance with BITV 2.0. The test is carried out in Sepetmber 2024 by the external test centre, the Blinden- und Sehbehindertenverband Hamburg. The barriers identified in the external audit report (available online at: Prüfbericht BIK BITV-Test) were resolved by our web agency. The subsequent review after the barriers were corrected was carried out as a self-assessment by Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH.
How accessible is the website?
This website is substantially compliant with the requirements of BITV 2.0. We are committed to continuously reducing any remaining barriers and eliminating them as far as possible.
Disproportionate burden
Sub-areas that are not designed to be barrier-free, as this would constitute a disproportionate burden (BIKTG Bln §4 paragraph 3):
Subsection: 9.4.1.2/0.1 Name, role, value available / Tooltip for screen readers and keyboard operation (aria-role=Tooltip)
Description: Some pages use icons with tooltip functionality (non-modal text display), including icons without links, such as the ‘wheelchair accessible’ symbol. The following problems arise when using technically outdated screen readers in connection with this tooltip functionality: For some icons, there are no usable labels or text alternatives. The text pop-ups necessary for understanding the icons may not be available when using a keyboard.
Explanation of why this is a disproportionate burden: External testers recommend writing out the text of the icons instead of placing it in tooltips. This change would result in far-reaching changes to the design and aesthetics of the Museumdienst Berlin website. According to our web agency's assessment, the tooltip as it is currently implemented should work for modern screen readers. Accessible alternative: If possible, please use a technically up-to-date screen reader. We are also currently working on providing an accessibility legend on the website that describes the icons and symbols used in the context of accessibility.
